Who you are dealing with

MyHeroLegacy is operated by IT Unlocked LLC, doing business as MyHeroLegacy. Using the service means you accept these terms. You must be 18 or over to hold an account.

Your account

Keep your password to yourself and tell us at support@myherolegacy.com if you think someone else has got into your account. You are responsible for what happens under it. We may suspend an account that is being used to break these terms, and we will say why.

What you give us, and what you keep

Your photographs and your words stay yours. Uploading them gives us permission to do one thing: make your book — store the material, generate the story and illustrations from it, produce the files, have the book printed and delivered, and keep it in your account so you can read or reorder it later. That permission lasts while your account does. We do not use your material to advertise, and we will not show your hero or your book to anyone else without asking you first.

You confirm that you are entitled to give us what you upload: that the photographs are yours to use, and that you have the right to tell this story. If your hero is living, please make sure they are content to be written about.

The finished book is yours to keep, read, print through us and give away. The software, the site, our illustration styles and our templates remain ours.

What we will not make

These books are about military personnel, veterans, first responders and others who served. We will not produce a book that is hateful, that sexualises anyone, that uses someone else’s photographs without permission, that is designed to harass a real person, or that fabricates military service, decorations or awards. We may decline an order or stop one that is under way, and we will refund it if we do.

How the book is made, and the proof

The story and the illustrations are generated from what you give us, and generated work is not perfect. You can edit pages and regenerate them. Nothing is printed until you approve the proof — that approval is the moment you tell us the book is right, including names, ranks, dates and spellings. Please read it carefully, because the printed book will match the proof you approved.

Colours on a printed page never match a screen exactly, and paper and binding vary a little between copies. That is normal printing, not a fault.

Prices, payment and discount codes

Prices are shown before you pay and are charged in US dollars. Payment is taken by Stripe. Taxes and delivery are added at checkout where they apply. If a price is displayed wrongly through an obvious error, we may cancel the order and refund you rather than hold you to it.

A discount code applies to the order it is entered on, may be used once per customer, and can be withdrawn at any time. Codes have no cash value.

Delivery, cancellation and refunds

Printed books are made to order. You can cancel for a full refund while your order is still queued with us; once the print file has gone to our printer it cannot be stopped. Availability

We will keep the service running as well as we can, but we do not promise it will never be down. We may change or withdraw features. If we ever close the service, we will give you reasonable notice and a way to download your books first.

Where you stand if something goes wrong

If we get your book wrong, we will put it right — reprint it or refund it, as set out in the returns page. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim connected with your order is limited to what you paid for it, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. The service is otherwise provided as it is, without warranties we have not given you in writing here.

Nothing in these terms takes away a right the law gives you and does not allow us to remove.

Disputes and governing law

Please write to support@myherolegacy.com first — nearly everything is settled that way. These terms are governed by the laws of Colorado, and the courts there have jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and the version in force for your order is the one published when you paid.
